A Richmond man was arraigned in Fayette District Court Friday afternoon on charges that he raped a woman while posing as a police officer.
Adam Oakley Crabtree, 31, is charged with one count of impersonating a police officer and one count of first-degree rape.
Crabtree was transferred to the Fayette County Detention Center from the Madison County jail, where he was in custody.
According to documents filed in court, the case grew out of a Lexington police prostitution investigation in February.
Never miss a local story.
Police said a prostitute told them she had met a man at the Howard Johnson's Inn in Lexington on Feb. 4 who stated that he was an undercover officer for the Lexington Division of Police. He displayed a badge, according to court documents.
The woman told police that the man then forced her to have sex with him, using his authority as an officer. She later identified a photo of Crabtree as being the man, according to court filings.
