An escapee turned himself in Thursday night to authorities in Eastern Kentucky, about 14 hours after disappearing while on work release.
Melvin Scott Garland, 29, of Royalton in Magoffin County, turned himself in at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center at Paintsville shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday, according to state police.
Garland was charged with second-degree escape.
Police said Garland had been on work release Thursday morning from the Three Forks Detention Center at Beattyville in Lee County. Garland disappeared about 8:30 a.m. Thursday from the Wolfe County highway garage in Campton, police said.
