Never miss a local story.
Police said they found him lying near some swings at the playground in Duncan Park, which is on Fifth Street between North Limestone and Martin Luther King Boulevard.
"It was a really serious situation, because our officers did have to perform CPR on him until the ambulance arrived," said Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts.
As of Monday, Lexington police had not made an arrest in the shooting.
"Officers obtained several differing accounts of what happened. We are still sorting out these conflicting reports," Roberts said.
Police said Sunday night that witnesses told them that three to four men were chasing the victim. Others reported seeing three or four men running after the shots were fired, police said.
Police said they also received reports of several shots being fired from a dark Pontiac at Sixth Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard a few minutes before the Duncan Park shooting.
Police are trying to determine whether the two cases are related.
