A 25-year-old Lexington man has been accused of raping a woman in September, and DNA evidence links him to the crime, according to court documents.
Lamar Rashawn Brazzle entered a not guilty plea through his attorney in Fayette District Court on Monday afternoon.
Brazzle was arrested over the weekend by the Fayette County Sheriff's Department.
He is charged with first-degree rape.
According to an affidavit filed in district court, the victim said she had gone out with a girlfriend and a man she knew as Rashawn Vega.
The victim stated that she fell asleep on a couch after they returned to the other woman's Lexington apartment about 3 a.m. Sept. 15. She said she awoke to find Vega removing her clothing. He held her down and raped her, the affidavit states.
The victim told investigators that when she tried to get the man to stop, he told her to "hush," "don't say nothing," and "just be quiet."
According to the affidavit, an investigation later identified Rashawn Vega as Lamar Reshawn Brazzle, a professional rapper who records under the Vega name.
DNA analysis also had linked Brazzle to the case, according to court documents.
Brazzle also is charged with marijuana possession.
A preliminary hearing in the case is set for May 21.
