A man was cited for trafficking in synthetic drugs after he and a female companion were shot and wounded late Thursday night in a vehicle stopped on a Lexington street, police said.
Desean Henderson, 31, and the unnamed woman have non-life-threatening injuries, Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.
Henderson was listed in fair condition Friday morning at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, UK officials said. There was no word on the woman's condition.
The shooting happened on Kilkenny Drive about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, according to police.
The couple apparently went to the area to "conduct a drug transaction," Roberts said. They were stopped on the street when two men wearing dark, hooded shirts approached the vehicle.
A disagreement occurred, and one of the newcomers fired a handgun, hitting Henderson and the woman inside the vehicle, police said.
Henderson was wounded in the right arm, and the woman was struck in the abdomen, Roberts said.
The wounded couple attempted to drive to the hospital, but they eventually flagged down a police officer near Main Street and Elm Tree Lane, police said.
Desean Henderson was cited for trafficking in synthetic drugs after talking with police, Roberts said. The investigation continues.
