A 17-year-old girl was shot in the neck during a carjacking in a residential Lexington neighborhood early Saturday, police say.
The girl and a 16-year-old friend were at the intersection of Twain Ridge Drive and Southmoor Park when a man approached the car's window and fired two gunshots, one of which hit the 17-year-old in the neck, police Sgt. Jesse Harris said.
The girls got out of the car, and the man drove away in their vehicle, a gold 2002 Ford Focus with license plate 608DTL, he said.
The incident happened at 1:38 a.m., Harris said.
He said the girl was in critical condition early Saturday but was expected to survive.
The shooting occurred as the teens were leaving a friend's house on Southmoor, and they ran back to the house to call for help, according to the Herald-Leader's reporting partner WKYT-TV.
