A Gray Hawk man has been indicted in a fatal collision June 16.
Justin Wibbles, 21, is charged with murder, first-degree wanton endangerment and reckless driving in connection with the death of Jerry Thompson. Wibbles' pickup truck collided with Thompson's van, according to a news release from the Laurel County sheriff's office.
Wibbles was traveling west on Ky. 30 about 4 miles east of London in a black Chevrolet Silverado. He entered the eastbound lane to pass some vehicles; when he met oncoming traffic, he continued into the eastbound emergency lane. Wibbles' vehicle struck Thompson's because Thompson had driven into the eastbound emergency lane trying to avoid a collision. Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Laurel County grand jury returned the indictment of Wibbles and set $200,000 bail. However, Wibbles failed to appear in court to answer the indictment, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
