A Lexington man has been returned to Fayette County to face an assault charge stemming from a shooting in July.
Daniel Martinez, 40, who had been on the lam since the July 1 shooting, was arrested earlier this month in Illinois, according to a release from the Office of the Fayette County Sheriff.
On Sept. 5, Martinez was arrested during a traffic stop in the Cook County, Illinois. The sheriff's office said he has been returned to stand trial on a charge of first-degree assault. Martinez is accused of shooting another man in the back on the 1900 block of Cambridge Drive about 10:30 a.m. July 1. The wounded man was taken to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Martinez was being held in the Fayette County Detention Center.
