A 34-year-old former police officer is facing assault and various other charges after turning himself in to the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department on Tuesday.
The sheriff's department said officers were looking for Brian K. Doan because he allegedly assaulted his estranged wife after breaking into her home early Tuesday morning outside Somerset.
According to deputies, Doan allegedly kicked in the door of his wife's home, setting off an alarm, then seized her and held his hand over her mouth to keep her from screaming.
Doan then fled. His wife suffered minor injuries, officers said.
Doan turned himself in to Pulaski Deputy Sheriff Scott West early Tuesday afternoon.
He also was wanted on an outstanding warrant in connection with an alleged assault on two residents at an adult assisted-support home in Somerset earlier this month, according to authorities. The victims suffered serious injuries in that assault, officials said.
Doan was being held in the Pulaski County jail.
According to the jail website, he is charged with first-degree assault, fourth-degree assault, knowingly causing the abuse or neglect of an adult, and intimidating a participant in the legal process.
Doan formerly was as a police officer in Berea and Mount Vernon, according to a report in Commonwealth Journal newspaper in Somerset.
