A driver involved in a fatal head-on collision in Clay County has been charged with murder and assault, Kentucky State police said Sunday.
Kentucky State Police said Rodney Bowling, 26, of London was driving north on U.S. 421 when his vehicle crossed the center-line and struck a vehicle in the southbound lane driven by Ronnie Mitchell, 50, of Manchester. Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clay County coroner's office.
Passengers in Bowling's Ford Ranger — Melissa Smith, 48, of Manchester and a juvenile — were airlifted from the scene and taken to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. State police did not identify the juvenile.
Bowling was taken to Manchester Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released, and then arrested. He was charged with murder, two counts of assault first degree and driving under the influence. Bowling was in the Clay County Detention Center on Sunday.
The accident happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
