A Lexington police officer and another driver were injured Tuesday morning when an SUV crossed the median on Man o' War Boulevard and collided head-on with a cruiser in the inner loop.
Neither woman's injuries was life-threatening, Lt. Chris Van Brackel said at the scene, but both drivers were taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.
The SUV driver lost control for unknown reasons about 7:35 a.m., crossed the low concrete median, and struck the oncoming police cruiser driven by Officer Amy Thurman. The officer was on routine patrol, with no lights or sirens in operation, Van Brackel said.
The crash occurred between Easthills Drive and Alumni Drive and kept Man o' War shut down in that area for almost two hours. The crash also snarled several nearby streets with bumper-to-bumper traffic as commuters struggled to get to work. Full traffic flow on Man o' War was restored about 9:10 a.m. after wreckage was cleared.
