A motorist died late Tuesday night after crashing his car into a fire hydrant in Lexington, authorities said.
The Fayette County coroner's office identified the victim as Shawn Parker, 41, and said he was pronounced dead at St. Joseph Hospital about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. No address for Parker was given, but his body was released to a funeral home in Harlan.
The coroner's office said Wednesday morning that officials think Parker died of a "sudden cardiac event" secondary to a pre-existing medical problem. He didn't suffer traumatic injuries in the wreck, coroner's officials said in a news release.
According to police, Parker was driving on Shoreside Drive when his vehicle ran off the road and struck the fire hydrant about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
He had no passengers, according to the coroner's office.
