A Perry County man has been charged with murder in the death of a 9-year-old boy who was killed in a car crash, according to Kentucky State Police.
Police served a murder warrant on Jason Combs Thursday at the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard, where he was being held on other charges related to the Jan. 24 crash, according to a news release.
State police said Combs, 36, was driving east on Combs Road near Airport Gardens when his 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck crossed into the opposite lane and crashed head-on into a 2011 Chrysler Sebring in which the child was a passenger.
Police did not release the names of the boy or the driver of the car, who was not seriously hurt.
The child was flown to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where he died Monday.
Police initially charged Combs with driving while impaired, first-degree assault and first-degree wanton endangerment. Police added the murder charge after consulting Commonwealth's Attorney John Hansen, according to a news release.
