Two Lexington residents were awakened early Tuesday morning and found a burglar opening their bedroom door, police said.
Just before 2 a.m., the couple woke to find someone entering their bedroom, police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said. The wife yelled, causing the burglar to flee the home in the 2000 block of Norborne Drive, off Lakeshore Drive.
Even so, the burglar managed to get away with a purse, a laptop computer and a 9mm pistol, according to police.
Police said they think the burglar entered the house by smashing the glass in some basement French doors.
A police dog followed a scent trail to the Seely Drive area, where the burglar apparently entered a vehicle and drove away, Roberts said.
Officers located glass in the street where the dog had tracked, police said.
An investigation is continuing.
