A Bryan Station High School student on Thursday was charged with possession of a handgun.
In an email to parents, Principal Mike Henderson said the student, whose name was not immediately given, was charged with "possession of a weapon on school property and will be referred to the court system. He is also facing serious disciplinary consequences through the school district."
On Wednesday, Lexington police said school security received information that a student had a gun and left the school, possibly taking the weapon along. The student was later questioned by school security, police said.
