A Laurel County man died Sunday after being shot by his cousin during an altercation, Sheriff John Root said in a news release.
Police charged one man in the shooting and another — who is the brother of the victim — with facilitating the homicide by supplying the pistol, according to Deputy Gilbert Acciardo Jr., spokesman for Root.
The shooting happened about 4:20 a.m. at a mobile home 2 miles north of London where all three men involved were thought to be living.
Police learned during the investigation that Clifford Lee Humfleet, 31, and his cousin Jonathan Ryan Humfleet, 23, apparently had gotten into an argument that turned physical. Police think alcohol was involved.
Jonathan Humfleet allegedly shot Clifford Humfleet once in the chest with a 9mm pistol during the confrontation, according to the release. Clifford Humfleet was flown by helicopter to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police initially charged Jonathan Humfleet with attempted murder because he was arrested before his cousin died, Acciardo said. Police will present the case to a grand jury, which could upgrade the charge to murder.
River Humfleet, 18, was charged with facilitation to commit murder.
Police have not determined what the men were fighting about, Acciardo said.
