A 35-year-old Lexington man pleaded not guilty in Fayette District Court on Friday to sexually abusing a woman on Indiana Avenue, which runs beside the Herald-Leader building.
Bennie Charles Johnson was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree sexual abuse in connection with the Feb. 21 incident.
The victim told police that she was assaulted while walking along Indiana Avenue near the Herald-Leader building. A surveillance camera caught images of a man running away moments later, according to court documents.
A second woman reported that she was stalked by a man about 15 minutes later a few blocks away, police said. She later identified the man in the surveillance images from the original incident as the same person who chased her, police said.

Johnson later was identified as the person in the images, according to a court affidavit.
Police also charged Johnson with possession of drug paraphernalia after finding a crack pipe in his pocket when he was arrested. He also pleaded not guilty to the drug charge.
Johnson was being held in the Fayette County jail on a $5,150 bond. He's scheduled to appear in court April 17.
