Workers have repaired a gas leak that forced police to close a section of Nicholasville Road Monday, according to Columbia Gas.
The busy street between Waller Avenue and Arcadia Park was reopened about 2:30 p.m., a few hours after the leak at Alumni and Nicholasville roads was discovered, according to Lexington's Traffic Management Center. Right lanes at Nicholasville and Alumni remained blocked, the center said.
A second gas leak began about the same time, causing a temporary evacuation of two University of Kentucky dorms and intermittent disrupted traffic near campus.
UK allowed students to return to Woodland Glen dormitories 1 and 2 about an hour after the construction-related gas leak began on Oldham Court off Columbia Avenue. The leak occurred about 11:15 a.m. Some residences on Oldham also were evacuated, UK officials said.

The university warned that road closings would continue to occur as needed to make repairs.
