A man was shot and wounded early Wednesday morning after he refused to give up his wallet to four robbers, Lexington police said.
The shooting happened just before 1:30 a.m. on Codell Drive, police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.
The victim flagged down a passing police officer and said that he had been shot in the abdomen, Roberts said. The man was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital. Police said the injuries were not life-threatening.
Roberts said the victim told police that he was walking away from his car in a parking lot when four men approached on foot. One of them displayed a handgun and demanded the victim's wallet, she said.
The victim refused and began chasing the robbers, and one of them turned and fired, Roberts said.
The victim was hit at least once, she said.
An investigation is continuing.
