A 26-year-old Lexington resident was charged with first-degree assault after a man was shot multiple times early Friday.
Anthony Wayne Crutcher and the victim, identified in a court record as Corey Mack, have known each other for some time, according to a citation filed in Fayette District Court on Friday.
Crutcher pleaded not guilty in district court on Friday afternoon, according to court documents.
He's set to appear in court May 7. Crutcher is expected to hire an attorney. He was being held in the Fayette County jail on a $7,500 full cash bond .
Mack was shot in the back about 1:30 a.m. Friday at a parking lot in the 300 block of Ballpark Drive near Whitaker Bank Ballpark, police said. He made his way to a house in the 100 block of Paris Avenue, where officers found him, police Lt. Kevin Metcalf said.
Police went to the Paris Avenue address after receiving a call that a man there had been shot.
Ballpark Drive is off North Broadway, near Legends Lane, where the Whitaker Ballpark is located. Paris Avenue is off North Broadway between Ballpark and Legends Lane.
Mack identified Crutcher as the person who shot him, according to a citation filed in the case Friday morning. The victim also told police he had known Crutcher for an extended period of time, the citation states.
Mack was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital for treatment, police said.
Crutcher has history of trouble with the law over several years, court records show, with charges including drug trafficking, drug possession and identity theft, according to records. He also is scheduled for trial in Lexington on robbery and persistent felony offender charges this summer.
