A Northern Kentucky man was killed Friday morning when his motorcycle and a Danville Fire Department sport-utility vehicle collided.
The crash occurred at 10:45 at the intersection of the U.S. 127 Bypass and U.S. 150 on Danville's south side, near Wal-Mart and Cracker Barrel. It is one of the city's busiest intersections.
Edward Weiss, 67, of Fort Wright, the driver of a Honda Goldwing motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene, Boyle County Coroner Dr. Don Hamner said.
Weiss's wife, the passenger on the motorcycle, was airlifted to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
As the fire department vehicle entered the intersection, the eastbound motorcycle struck it in the passsenger side. Two other vehicles were also involved in the collision as the SUV came to a stop near the intersection.
The person driving the fire department SUV was not seriously injured, Police Chief Tony Gray said.
The fire vehicle was headed to a reported vehicle fire near the Wal-Mart, Gray said.
The SUV had its emergency equipment activated at the time of the collision, and both the driver and the passenger on the motorcycle were wearing helmets when the collision occurred, state police said.
