Former state employee Gordon Bowers was sentenced Thursday to 13 years in federal prison for receiving child pornography, according to a news release.
Bowers, 51, worked as an environmental scientist at the London office of the Department for Natural Resources Division of Mine Reclamation and Enforcement.
He was arrested in February 2014 on four counts of possession of matter portraying sexual performance by a minor.
Police traced the source of several child porn pictures and videos to Bowers' state-issued computer and other storage devices.

They found more than 40,000 images depicting children engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
Bowers pleaded guilty in January.
He must serve at least 85 percent of his prison sentence under federal law, and after his release, he will be monitored by the U.S. Probation Office for 15 years. Bowers was ordered to pay $35,000 in restitution to multiple victims to help pay for psychological counseling.
