Police arrested a Laurel County man who allegedly killed his girlfriend, according to a news release from Sheriff John Root. Christopher Byrd, 29, was charged early Sunday with murder.
Root said that when police were sent to investigate a shooting at a house on Hickory Road, five miles west of London, just after 11 p.m. Saturday, they found Shannon Engle dead in the bedroom. Engle, 22, had been shot in the head, according to the release.
The investigation by sheriff's detective Charlie Loomis determined that Byrd and Engle were boyfriend and girlfriend and apparently had been in a dispute. Byrd admitted shooting Engle, according to Root's release. Police found a .25-caliber pistol at the house.
