FRANKFORT — Lee Circuit Court Clerk Emma C. Adams on Monday was suspended temporarily pending an investigation into possible official misconduct, the state Administrative Office of the Courts said in a news release.
Supreme Court Chief Justice John Minton did not comment on details of the investigation but said the AOC had initiated it, and had contacted and was cooperating with "appropriate authorities." He did not elaborate. Adams could not be reached for comment.
Owsley Circuit Court Clerk A. Michael Mays will serve as special clerk for Lee County during Adams' suspension. Adams' office in Beattyville will continue to operate with regular business hours.
Circuit court clerks are responsible for managing records of the state's circuit and district courts. They are constitutionally elected officials in all 120 counties and serve six-year terms.
