A gas line was cut at a construction site in Lexington on Tuesday afternoon, cutting service to 33 customers.
Communications director Lisa Smith said a private contractor was working at the intersection of Oak Hill Drive and Locust Avenue in the Castlewood neighborhood when workers hit the gas line with an excavator.
About 20 homes were evacuated after the leak was reported at 1 p.m. The leak was stopped when the two-inch medium-pressure line was turned off at 2:40 p.m., she said.
Service was restored starting at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
