Police say a northern Kentucky officer fatally shot a man involved in a domestic dispute at a home where a woman was fatally stabbed.
Kentucky State Police Lt. Rick Saint-Blancard told WCPO-TV that an Elsmere officer fired at the man after arriving about 7:45 p.m. Thursday at home where a woman had been stabbed. Saint-Blancard said the woman was alive when the officer arrived, but she later died.
Gustavo Ponce-Galon, 42, was shot inside his home, state police said in a news release. Ponce-Galon was armed with a knife, and an Elsmere officer gave multiple verbal commands to drop it in attempts to engage in dialogue. Galon refused to comply, and after several minutes, he charged the officer with his knife, the news release said. That's when the officer shot Galon.
The state police release did not identify the officer.
The woman who died was identified as Maribel Angeles Garcia, 34. She had been taken to University of Cincinnati Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arriving at the hospital.
State police are handling the investigation, which is routine for officer-involved shootings.
