A Memphis man is Scott County’s first homicide victim of 2016.
Jeremiah Otaveous Washington, 24, was found near the Scott-Fayette county line with two gunshots to the chest, Scott County Sheriff Tony Hampton said Sunday.
Hampton said officers received a “shots fired” emergency call about 7:30 p.m. Saturday. They arrived at 100 Tipps Lane and found Washington lying in the driveway. He was declared dead at Georgetown Community Hospital. An autopsy was scheduled Monday at the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort.
Officers interviewed three witnesses who said they saw two men attack the victim before shooting him. They were described as being 6-foot-2 to 6-foot-4; Hampton said one had dreadlocks and the other was wearing a red sports jacket. After the shooting they both got into a red four-door car, possibly a Dodge or a Chrysler, Hampton said.
Never miss a local story.
“We have reason to believe that Washington has been hanging around Lexington,” Hampton said. He asked that anyone with information about Washington or the shooting contact the Scott County Sheriff’s Office at 50)-863-7855.
