DANVILLE — Carmen Coleman, director of elementary schools for Fayette County, was named Monday as the new superintendent of the Danville Independent Schools.
A Scott County native, Coleman is a graduate of Georgetown College. She was a teacher in Scott County and was principal at Anne Mason Elementary School from 2003 to 2006 before joining the leadership team in Fayette County.
"First of all, I want to work with the people there and see what their goals are," Coleman said of Danville. "For all schools, we really need to prepare our children for a global economy. But I am not going to put into place anything without talking with people about what they are already doing."
Coleman succeeds Bob Rowland, who plans to retire June 30. Rowland had been superintendent of the 1,785-student district since 1998.
