A Bryan Station High School student was pepper-sprayed by a Fayette County Public Schools security officer and then arrested Friday afternoon following an altercation at the school.
According to school district spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall, the student had skipped school and been brought back to Bryan Station by his mother.
However, an altercation between the student and his mother then broke out in the principal's office, Deffendall said. The security officer was called for assistance. The altercation continued, with the student allegedly throwing a chair at the officer, who then pepper-sprayed the student.
The student was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, Deffendall said. Both are misdemeanors.
