School days are giving way to Pomp and Circumstance for thousands of high school seniors all around Central Kentucky. Bryan Station and Tates Creek high schools held commencement exercises for more than 700 graduates at Rupp Arena on Thursday.
Henry Clay, Lafayette and Paul Laurence Dunbar high schools will hand out diplomas to graduates Friday at 1, 4 and 7 p.m. respectively, at Rupp Arena.
For those who can't attend the ceremonies, the Fayette County Public Schools will broadcast each graduation three times on cable Channel 13 in coming weeks.
Altogether, the Fayette County Public Schools are granting diplomas to more than 2,100 members of the class of 2010, up from a little more than 2,000 last year.
Never miss a local story.
As always, it is a bittersweet moment. Some graduates will be moving on to college; many will be starting careers in the adult world; all will be bidding goodbye to friends.
And, for next year's seniors, it's only 68 days until the start of the 2010-11 school year in Fayette County.
