Gladys Peoples says she will step down as principal of Lexington's Bryan Station High School, effective July 1. She has been principal for six years.
"It is with great joy and thanksgiving that my faith has led me to announce my decision to leave my position as head principal," Peoples said in a message to Bryan Station students and parents that was posted on the school's Web site.
She is the second Fayette County Public Schools principal to resign in recent weeks.
Recently, Darla Simms retired as principal of Picadome Elementary School, Fayette District officials said. Cathy Bell will serve as interim principal until a successor is named, according to the district.

In her message, Peoples gave no specific reasons for leaving, saying only that she thinks it is time for her to make a change.
"Faith and prayer led me to this post ... and I feel just as firmly that it is time to tackle other challenges," she wrote.
