A former Whitley County Head Start teacher who allegedly bit and spanked a 15-month-old student must take an anger management class after pleading guilty to an assault charge.
Ginger Dawn Hackler also will be on probation for two years, according to the Whitley County District Court Clerk's office.
Hackler originally was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal abuse of a child under age 12. But she pleaded guilty to an amended charge of fourth-degree assault earlier this month, the clerk's office said.
Hackler was sentenced to 12 months in jail, but placed on probation for two years instead, with the stipulation that she must enroll in an anger management program, the clerk's office said.
The case stemmed from an incident last August in which Hackler allegedly bit and then spanked the child.
Hackler's attorney, Jonathan Jones, could not be reached Thursday.
