An 8-year-old child suffered minor injuries Wednesday morning when he was struck by a slow-moving vehicle at Wilson-Downing Road and Camelot Drive, Lexington police said.
A female driver disregarded a school crossing guard who was helping children cross the street, then moved her vehicle and struck the child, police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.
The boy's mother drove him to the hospital to be examined, Roberts said.
The accident happened about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday near Southern Elementary School.
Officers said the crossing guard told them that she was in the middle of Wilson-Downing Road, stopping traffic so children could cross.
The driver was turning onto Wilson-Downing Road when her vehicle struck the child. No charges will be filed, according to police Lt. Chris Van Brackel.
Van Brackel said that, under Kentucky law, police officers cannot file misdemeanor charges for incidents they don't witness.
