The Kentucky State University Board of Regents approved a tuition increase during a meeting Friday.
Students would pay an additional 5 percent in tuition and fees beginning in fall 2015, according to a university news release.
A student who is a resident of Kentucky now pays $3,507 in tuition and fees for at least 12 hours. A non-resident full-time student pays $8,412 in tuition and fees.
The increase would add $175.35 to in-state and out-of-state tuition.

The university's spring commencement is scheduled for 9 a.m. May 9 in the Frankfort Convention Center.
