The Fayette County school board plans to interview at least two candidates for superintendent of the district next week.
Because background checks are still being conducted, officials would not identify the candidates Wednesday.
By July 1, the board wants to find a replacement for Tom Shelton, who left in December.
The public can participate in the selection through public forums, community receptions, small group meetings, and online submissions.
The two candidates will each spend a day and a half in Lexington. The first candidate will be interviewed next Tuesday and Wednesday; the second, next Thursday and Friday.
Each candidate will tour Fayette schools on the afternoon of his or her first day, followed by a reception from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at William Wells Brown Elementary School. On the candidates' second day, each will meet with eight focus groups representing students, employees, families and community members, followed by a public forum at 6 p.m. in Norsworthy Auditorium at Central Office.
