Columbia Gas successfully patched a gas leak Thursday morning that prompted the evacuation of five dorms at the University of Kentucky.
Southbound traffic on Woodland Avenue from Columbia Avenue was closed about 8 a.m. because of the leak at Woodland Glen 5, a UK dorm. The road reopened about 9:30 a.m., and the dorms were reopened.
UK spokeswoman Kathy Johnson said Columbia Gas crews and Lexington firefighters were at the scene. Woodland Glen 1, Woodland Glen 4, Ingels Hall and Smith Hall were all evacuated.
Johnson said that originally, only Woodland Glen 1 was evacuated, but the evacuation area expanded because of changing winds.

Johnson estimated that fewer than 200 people had to be evacuated from the dorms.
Woodland Glen 1 has some summer school residents occupying it. Woodland Glen 4 and 5 are not open. Only one person was in Smith Hall.
