Alumni Drive between Nicholasville and Tates Creek roads, reconfigured to include two roundabouts, reopened to traffic on Sunday, one day ahead of schedule. It had been closed since May.
The $5 million project on the University of Kentucky campus was designed by UK and paid for with state money. It provides access to Commonwealth Stadium and the rest of the campus. In addition to the roundabouts, it features new bicycle and pedestrian paths.
The roundabouts replace intersections and stops at College Way and at University Drive.
Previously, 18,000 to 24,000 vehicles a day traveled that stretch of road. The realignment increases its capacity to 25,000 vehicles a day, according to UK.
