Two activists seeking to encourage peace and tolerance in Afghanistan are to speak Wednesday at the University of Kentucky.
Aref Dostyar and Sofia Ramyar will share their work and passion for Afghanistan and will take questions at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the first-floor conference room at the David Marskbury Building, 329 Rose Street.
Both have worked with Afghans for Progressive Thinking, which was founded in 2010 to promote a culture of tolerance, openness and respect by providing university students with opportunities to critically engage contemporary issues.
President Obama said last month that he will keep 5,500 U.S. troops in Afghanistan into 2017, ending his ambitions to bring home most American forces from that country before he leaves office.
Wednesday night's event is sponsored by UK Peace Studies and the Central Kentucky Council for Peace and Justice.
