Groups start shoe-donation program to honor Louis 'Shoeshine' Gill Cobb

- bfortune@herald-leader.com

A shoe-donation program has been organized in memory of professional shoe-shiner Louis "Shoeshine" Gill Cobb, who died last week.

Cobb, a colorful, sometimes controversial character, was a fixture downtown.

Gently worn shoes for men, women and children may be dropped off at the Hope Center, 360 West Loudon Avenue, or the Hope Center for Women, 1524 Versailles Road.

The project is being organized by the Downtown Lexington Corporation and the Hope Center.
