Obama push for assault weapons ban, other gun restrictions faces steep climb in Congress

Obama will be joined at the White House announcement by Vice President Joe Biden and children who wrote to him after the shooting in Newtown, Conn. Gun control activists and lawmakers also have been invited. His proposals will include executive actions that don’t need congressional approval, as well as legislation.
