FRANKFORT — Legislative leaders interviewed candidates for director of the Legislative Research Commission behind closed doors Wednesday but made no decision on who will get the job.
After the interviews, Senate President Robert Stivers, R-Manchester, and House Speaker Greg Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg, said they will further discuss the search and call a special meeting of legislative leaders "sooner rather than later" to hire someone for the position.
They declined to identify any of the candidates or say anything about them.
Legislative leaders hope to have the position filled by Oct. 1, three months before the 2016 General Assembly begins.
The director serves as the chief executive officer for the Kentucky General Assembly and oversees the non-partisan support staff for state lawmakers.
Marcia Seiler of Louisville retired at the end of July as the interim LRC director.
