David O'Neill, Fayette County PVA, became the first candidate to file to run for county office on Wednesday. O'Neill, a Democrat who was first elected as the county property value administrator in 2010, said he is not sure if he will have an opponent for the county's top tax assessor job.
Most Lexington and Fayette County elected positions — including mayor — are up for election in 2014. Wednesday was the first day to file. The filing deadline is Jan. 28.
O'Neill said Wednesday that over the past four years he has worked to make the vast amount of data the office collects more readily available to the public. If re-elected, he wants to build on his previous success, he said.
"The business leaders are using it to see trends," O'Neill said. "We now have every single expense listed on the PVA web site. I still want to find more ways for the average citizen and the business community to be more engaged with the data."
