Gov. Matt Bevin said Wednesday that Donald Trump is “absolutely” qualified to be the next president of the United States.
But Bevin, a Republican, stopped short of endorsing Trump, saying he is “not an endorsing-type person.”
Bevin will attend the Republican national convention next week in Cleveland, where Trump is expected to be selected as the GOP’s presidential nominee.
Asked at a news conference in the Capitol Rotunda about Trump’s qualifications, Bevin said he certainly is qualified relative to President Barack Obama.
“Look at the actual things” Trump has done, Bevin said, because the multimillionaire businessman has “been a leader. He’s been somebody who has created things.”
Bevin would not say whether he attended a private fundraiser Monday for Trump at the Aviation Museum of Kentucky in Lexington.
Bevin also chided presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, alleging that she was corrupt.
He said people should support candidates who have ideologies similar to theirs.
