Will McGinnis, who ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Lexington a dozen years ago, has registered as a write-in candidate in the current race.
"Our motto in Kentucky is 'Unbridled Spirit,' but I don't feel that in Lexington," McGinnis said. "I feel more like it's 'Bridled Spirit.' I'm going to take that bridle off."
McGinnis, 41, is a former strip-o-gram operator and nightclub owner who now operates Lexington Taxi and sells real estate. He also ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2000.
His name will not appear on the ballot in November. But by clicking on "write in" under the names of candidates Jim Newberry and Jim Gray, voters will get a type pad and can enter a name.
