Community members sang, prayed and lit candles on Saturday night in memory of 5-year-old James Spoonamore, who was kidnapped last weekend in Jackson County and later found dead.
The candlelight vigil in Bond Memorial Park in McKee was also held to show support for James’ mother, Jessica Durham, who was thrown from a cliff and seriously injured in the attack. She continues to recover from her injuries.
Lonnie Belt, 41, of McKee has been charged with murder, kidnapping, assault and evidence tampering. Police said he confessed to the attack and to killing James.
Community members were encouraged to leave messages for family members as they gathered for the vigil.
