A Madison County man was killed Monday in a construction accident at a store building site in Richmond, authorities said.
Richmond and Lexington firefighters responded to the site where two track hoes, large heavy equipment, could be seen digging at the future site of a Menards retail store.The 20-acre Richmond site is behind Walgreen’s on the Eastern Bypass.
Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison identified the man who died as Loren Richmond 38, of Richmond. An autopsy will be conducted in Frankfort to determine cause of death, Cornelison said.
Richmond police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating, Cornelison said.
The accident, initially reported as a trench collapse, was reported shortly before 11:30 a.m., according to the Madison County Emergency Management Service. Cornelison said they can not say how Richmond died until the autopsy is completed.
The Menards store is to be part of a development called Woodland Crossing.
