Kentucky State Police arrested a Knox County woman on drug and other charges after she allegedly left her six children alone without food, according to a news release.
Mary Meek, 38, of Gray allegedly left the children alone on Tuesday for several hours. They ranged from 13 years old to seven months, police said.
State police investigated after receiving a call about the children, who said they had gone to a neighbor’s house to ask for food.
Meek got home as troopers were arriving at her house, but refused to say where she had been or how long she’d been gone, said state police spokesman Shane Jacobs.

Trooper Chad Gregory found drugs and drug paraphernalia in the house, according to the release.
Social workers helped place the children with a family member.
Police charged Meek with endangering the welfare of a minor; third-degree possession of a controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; and possession of marijuana.
