Videos of Kentucky choir students singing the national anthem in a high-rise hotel are getting lots of attention online.
It’s become an annual tradition for the Kentucky Music Educators Association’s All-State Choir to gather in the atrium and on the balconies inside the Hyatt Regency Louisville to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
This year’s performance was at 11 p.m. Wednesday.
Garrett Mager was staying in the hotel when the group gathered to sing. He posted a video on Facebook late Wednesday. By Friday night, it had been shared more than 85,000 times and viewed by 2.8 million people.
Never miss a local story.
“Had a proud #American moment tonight,” he wrote. “Woke up in my hotel hearing a lot of noise outside in the lobby. I went out and found this.”
The KMEA’s annual professional development conference continues through Saturday. The conference features concerts by the Kentucky Children’s Chorus, Kentucky Junior High Chorus, All-State Choir, All-State Band, All-State Orchestra and other groups.
