A London man was arrested after allegedly offering to pay cash to have sex with a minor, according to a release from Attorney General Andy Beshear’s office.
Rahul Priyakart Patel, 31, was charged with promoting human trafficking with a person under age 18 and with illegal use of an electronic device to induce a minor to engage in sexual activity, according to the release.
Police arrested Patel May 16 at a hotel in London.
Beshear’s office said the investigation of suspected human trafficking in southeastern Kentucky continues and more arrests are expected.
The release said the Attorney General’s Office, London police, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office and police in Louisville are cooperating on the trafficking investigation.
“Human trafficking is modern-day slavery that occurs in every county in our state, and the only way to raise awareness and prevent it is through working together in strong partnerships,” Beshear said.
Patel was lodged in the Laurel County jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond, according to the news release.
