Magoffin County has been added to the list of Eastern Kentucky counties whose residents and businesses are eligible to apply for federal assistance to help with recovering from May's severe storms and resulting floods and mudslides.
It joins Breathitt, Floyd, Owsley and Pike counties, which were designated as eligible for individual assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency on May 29.
The individual assistance offered through FEMA helps people cover the cost of repairs, temporary housing, rent and replacing uninsured personal property.
So far, FEMA has received 2,947 requests for help in the four counties originally covered, and $7.77 million in assistance has been approved. To register for help, call 1-800-621-3362 or go to www.disasterassistance.gov.
